Wandelvakantie Zuid-Portugal

Everyone knows southern Portugal and the Algarve from the beautiful coast and beaches. With so many sun hours the Algarve seems a logical choice to have a beach holiday. But do you know there is a beautiful hilly countryside in southern Portugal which is well suitable for a self guided walking holiday? An old pilgrim route runs from the eastern border of Spain to the southern tip of Portugal, right through the beautiful hinterland of the Algarve. This pilgrim route is called the “Via Algarviana”. You walk through a very diverse nature area, for the most part on unpaved roads and you will probably not encounter any other tourists. The surroundings and the views are different every day.

After we came to live here, we walked many times, a route of the Via Algarviana or linked circular walks. However, we thought there were some little difficulties to get started: the lack of transport to the start and end points of a route and no possibility to have lunch on the way. Also on many parts of the route there is no accommodation available to spend the night. But… we were more than enthusiastic about the walks themselves! Wonderful to relax and enjoy all the natural beauty of the Algarve! Afterwards you always arrive in a small village, where time has almost stood still.

Because we love “the Via Algarviana” and the other circular routes, we got the idea to make this beautiful walking route in the Algarve accessible for guests of B&B Casal da Eira! So now, we can offer you a self guided walking holiday for a number of eastern routes of the “Via Algarviana”. We provide transport to the start and end points and also a tasty lunch package. On the walking days you come back to our Bed and Breakfast Casal da Eira, tired but satisfied, from walking and you can sit down for a home cooked dinner!

We have been offering this walking holiday in the Algarve for more than 3 years now and everyone who books our self guided walking holiday “Via Algarviana” is very enthusiastic. Responses we received were, for example, as follows:

“Casal da Eira – Wonderful place to enjoy the sun and tranquility. We have walked 5 days on the Via Algarviana. What a luxury to be taken to the starting point every day and to be picked up at the end in a cozy little cafe that Bert had recommended to us. We enjoyed breakfast outside, meetings with other guests and delicious meals from Els. Casal da Eira is a small paradise in the hilly hinterland of Faro. ”

and

“Walking package booked, fully catered, everything arranged to perfection, no hassle too much. Great breakfast and dinner on walking days. Would recommend it to anyone. ”
