CASAL DA EIRA
FESTIVALS AND MARKETS
Markets Algarve -
AROUND CASAL DA EIRA
São Brás de Alportel and other towns in the region organizes several weekly markets.
In almost every town there is the saterday morning market with local products such as meat, fish, vegetables, herbs and fruit. Loulé (15 minutes by car) is a real winner with a big market every Saturday morning. The market takes place in an original, beautifully renovated markethall. There you find also a foodmarket. In São Brás de Alportel is a nice but smaller market.
Weekly there are also so-called gipsy markets. Every week there is a gipsy market in another town, where you can buy clothes, tools, jewelry, bags, watches, souvenirs, plants, fruit, vegetables and so on. You find here the big barbecues with grilled chicken. Not for take away but to eat just on the spot on a small simple terrace!
There are also weekly flea markets where you can find all sorts of things and sometimes some beautiful antiques.
Here are just a few of the many markets that take place in the area:

Festivals and events -
AROUND CASAL DA EIRA
Do not miss late July the Feira da Serra in São Brás de Alportel. It is a large annual fair with lots of craftwork, local products, a fashion show, a musical performance and even some local livestock. All night long there is a show with horses. A large square has been created with terraces where you can enjoy the gastronomy of the mountains.
In August and September there are various parties such as the Festival do Marisco in Olhão, a gastronomic week in Tavira, the Medieval parties in Silves and Cacela Velha, a folk festival in Quarteira, a large annual fair in Faro etc. etc.
In the Algarve, there are many sports events. For exemple the annual cycling tour of the Algarve (Volta ao Algarve), downhill (MTB) events, triathlons, running races and or motorcyclists festivals (eg annually in Faro but also in São Brás de Alportel!).
The so-called 365 Algarve has a cultural program with all the music, theater and dance performances as well as exhibitions, etc. With two beautiful theaters in Faro and Loulé, there is always something going on. Consult the monthly program of 365 Algarve.
We can inform you about what is going on in the Algarve.
Events or festivals are regularly organized in the area of São Brás de Alportel.
One of the big parties is the Carnival in February. Brazilian carnival parties take place in every town and village in the Algarve. Floats, live music and a festively dressed dancing procession pass you by.
At Easter you should not miss the Easter festival in São Brás de Alportel. The “Festa das Tochas Floridas” is one of the best known and oldest Easter traditions in the Algarve. The entire city is decorated with a kilometer-long carpet of flowers that are laid in mosaic patterns by the women early in the morning. Men with flower torches walk the procession, all chanting the same song.
In June there is the music Festival Med in Loulé. Several large music bands from Southern Europe perform. You find some street theater, many food stalls and a night market.
